The Study

Time for Study

It is impossible to predict accurately the time it will take to complete the study of any marriage. There are so many variables such as the promptness with which witnesses respond, the need to seek clarification of evidence, and the cooperation of the Respondent.

The Cost of the Study

The Tribunal has the same expenses as any office, such as secretary's salary and benefits, supplies, service contracts, equipment, and telephone bills. The priests involved volunteer their services. The Eparchy absorbs some of the cost. This includes the cost for the mandatory appeal to our Second Instance Tribunal for the Diocese of Orange in California.

Confidentiality

The information gathered by the Tribunal for their study of each case is gathered only for the purpose of determining the religious nature of the marriage in question according to the laws and jurisprudence of the Catholic Church. The files, therefore, remain strictly confidential and cannot be used for any other purposes.
